The Biohazard Wars: War Against the Dust and German Cochroach

Filthy Masters entered Beddington Heights, a neighborhood in Calgary, Alberta. There, they faced a biohazard of uncommon severity. The operation began at first light

The client required a full estate sale cleanout. Pest Control had already passed through. A neighbor, with wide eyes, greeted the team: “They said it was the worst they’ve ever seen — hundreds of thousands of cockroaches. Christopher Rozenberg and Kyle Moras of Filthy Masters entered with PPE to assess the situation.  Pest Control fogged the home and it was unoccupied.  Traps were fairly empty when they looked and later on when Filthy Masters cleaned out the home.

The whole of the townhouse is divided into three parts. The first: the upper region, wherein lies the chamber of the brother, now departed. There he took rest, conducted his affairs in his office, maintained additional sleeping quarters, and attended to bodily needs in his principal bathing chamber.

The second: the main level contains the place of nourishment, a small humble kitchen, with a small dining area. A small washroom, a large living room with a patio door to access the exterior for back yard.. As well as hallway next to the kitchen for the entering the home. Two staircases lay opposite the small bathroom: one ascending to the upper level, one descending to the basement.

The third area: lower level has several  objects of note, in the larger room, the washer & dryer where the brother washed & dried clothing. A substantial deep freezer for preservation of perishables and a natural gas furnace the warm the dwelling. In the second small room houses a wood shop with benches and an ancient radial arm saw.

The exterior of the dwelling was built in the 1970’s with small stairs assend to the porch to access the front entrance. The backyard of the residence is surprisingly quite large, it has a moderate sized wooden deck that is in rot, and well sized but covered flowerbed.

Incredible amount of dust, debris and cockroach corpses in the home

The Mighty Filthy Masters submitted their quote and detailed picture report of all their findings. They were unsurprisingly approved to start. As they were recommended by the Magnificent Alberta Realtors Sally Krulis and Logan Christianson

The awesome task began, Moras the Chief Operations Officer organized the materials and tools needed for the undertaking, Rozenberg reached out to his faithful vendors, Bin There Dump That, Suck It Up Furnace & Duct Cleaning  and a new addition Junk Works. Junk Works was on a previous project that Filthy Masters did the finishing touches of a biohazard cleaning estate sale after Junk Works removed 18 truck loads worth of debris and garbage before Filthy Masters arrived.

Filthy Masters began removal of roach corpses and debris removal. Hording was an issue with the project, their Dump Bin did not arrive until a few hours later. The project took them a good 10 days. the Basement took a whole 20 yard Junk bin by itself. Daily Reports were given from Christopher Rozenberg to the client. Contents were sorted and potential keepsakes were given to the clients family to go through. The amount of dust on the upper level was devastating and required an air scrubber to be on that floor in order to work properly. Multiple PPE suits, gloves and respirators were used.

Throughout, contents that seemed sentimental or special were given to the client, so the family can go though the items and pick what they want to keep. One was an old film projector with reels of old family memories. They gladly kept that one. Multiple cameras were found on site and turned over to the family. The most interesting items were an E Bike and an old Redial Arm Saw.

Black mold on wall

The Project was a total of 4, 20 yard Dumpster bins.

1.5 Junk Trucks and 1 full donation truck and countless Garbage bags.
It took the companies 10 days for complete hoarding clean out and biohazard decontamination for the estate sale.

The client also wanted a separate project, to clean out contents of a vehicle to get ready to sell. Rozenberg happy to oblige, starting cleaning out the contaminated vehicle. 3 large contractor garbage bags were used. The process took 2 cleaning attempts, one for the large debris, the other for the decontamination. The hording vehicle was finally ready after 2 separate ozone treatments.

The house stood clean. No stench. No biohazard. No corpse of cockroach remained. Filthy Masters achieved their aim: to make the home livable. A person could lay a mattress there, and sleep in peace.. The client expressed great satisfaction. So did the realtors. The home sold within 14 days
